REPORT ON VACCINATION IN THE MADRAS
PRESIDENCY DURING 1890-91.
From Surgeon D. F. DYMOTT, M.B., Inspector of Vaccination and Deputy Sanitary
Commissioner for Madras, to the Sanitary Commissioner for Madras, dated
Fort St. George, 28th June 1891, No. 2552A/V .
I have the honour to submit statistical returns and brief notes of vaccination
in the Madras Presidency for the official year 1890-91.
2. I returned from sick leave and took charge from Surgeon-Major W. G.
King on the 14th November 1890. From the 1st April to 14th November Dr.
King visited, for vaccine and sanitary inspections, the districts of Anantapur,
Tanjore, Malabar and Chingleput and the towns of Anantapur, Negapatam, Palghat
and Conjeeveram. From the 15th November to the end of the year I visited, on
inspection-duty, the districts of South Canara, Malabar, Ganjam and Vizagapatam
and the towns of Mangalore, Cannanore, Tellicherry, Calicut, Cochin, Berhampore,
Chicacole, Parlákimedi, Bimlipatam, Anakápalle, Vizianagrum and Vizagapatam.
3. The following statement shows the strength of establishment employed
during the years 1889-90 and 1890-91 :—

of 1890-91:—

The increase is due partly to increased strength of establishment, partly to
an increase in the average number of operations performed by each vaccinator.
5. The following table shows the rates of success in primary and re-vac-
cinations :—
