TRIENNIAL REPORT ON VACCINATION

                                       IN THE

Central Provinces and Berar for the years 1920-21, 1921-22
                                  and 1922-23.

1. Introductory.—The annual notes for 1920-21 and 1921-22 .
deal briefly with the vaccination work performed in those years,
while this report deals more fully with the work performed during
the triennium as a whole.

2.    Administration —During the triennium the charge of
the department was held by me except for the period from the
26th July 1920 to 25th June 1921 when I was on leave. Major
A. E. Grisewood, I.M.S., was in charge from the 26th July to the
20th September 1920 when Major P. M. Rennie, I.M.S., succeed-
ed him and remained in charge till the 25th June when I returned
from leave and resumed charge.

3.    Area and population.—The area served by the
vaccination staffs remained the same as in the previous triennium,
viz., 99,823 square miles, while the population of the province
which was 13,916,158 in the previous triennium has decreased
to 13,912,760 according to the census of 1921.

4.    Establishment.—During the triennium the number of
Assistant Superintendents of Vaccination continued the same (36),
but that of vaccinators was reduced by one man. In Yeotmal
district three more men were entertained, in Buldana two, Nimar,
Betul and Drug one each, while Chanda reduced its staff by three
and Nagpur, Narsinghpur and Raipur by two each. The estab-
lishment during the triennium therefore stood at 36 Assistant
Superintendents of Vaccination and 307 vaccinators as compared
with 36 and 308 respectively in the previous triennium.

5.    It is reported by the Civil Surgeon, Chanda, that the
deficiency of the staff in that district partly accounts for the
fall in the number of operations performed there. The District
Council would be well advised to pay attention to this matter and
take early steps to increase the number of vaccinators.
