Increase and decrease of vaccination work
in each district shown in Statement II.

6. Operations.—We learn from Statement No. II. the total number of operations
performed during the season 1881-82, and the work in each
district stands contrasted with that of the previous year.
The increase of vaccination work, taking the Province as a whole, is shown as very
considerable, numbering a total of 16,142 vaccinations over and above the total number
of 1880-81. In the Gáro Hills there was a decrease of 539, and this falling off is
accounted for by the loss of the services of one of the vaccinators, who was himself attacked
with small-pox in the district, and his co-vaccinator had to attend on him during his illness.
In the Darrang district there was a slight decrease of 68 vaccinations; but, nevertheless,
there was good work done. Except these two districts, every other district shows an
increased number of operations. Both Nowgong and Sibságar, hitherto in the back-
ground, show a very considerable number more of vaccinations than previously. Kámrúp
stands the highest; but there was an unaccountable influx of ex-inoculators who overran
this district during the season, and on whose work I pin little or no confidence.

The work shown of each class of operator
in each district and in each centre of opera-
tion throughout the Province.

7. From the subjoined Statement No. III., we learn the amount of work performed
by each class of operator in each district and in each centre of
operation throughout the Province.

Civil Surgeons.—There were (including primary and re-vaccinations) 1,146 opera-
tions performed by Civil Surgeons. This work in a tabulated form is shown for the first
time, and much credit is due to Civil Medical Officers for the personal efforts they have
made during the past season in furthering the work of vaccination: notably those of
Nowgong, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Silchar, and Dhubri. The Civil Medical Officer at Nowgong
deserves credit for his praiseworthy efforts, his work during the season under review stands
